Informed Movement: Finding Balance Through Pregnancy

This workshop approaches pregnancy as a time of rich, layered, and multi-system adaptations, not a collection of isolated symptoms or a set of rigid trimester rules. We see the role of a movement instructor as an observer of how the system is organizing under changing conditions and offer appropriate adaptation that supports productive engagement within a movement practice. For instructors, this establishes an important guiding principle: we do not make decisions based solely on gestational age. We make decisions in collaboration with our client(s) based on a combination of how each individual is able to organize and carry out relevant fundamental movement concepts, and client feedback. This 10-hour hybrid workshop will unfold over the course of two days. Day one will be held online, and will walk through the many systems undergoing change in the gestational period. These include the endocrine, cardiovascular, metabolic, nervous, respiratory, and musculockeletal systems. Day two will be held in studio and cover scope of practice considerations, biomechanical shifts that impact the integrity of Regarding Form’s Movement Fundamentals, as well as modification considerations for Pilates apparatus choreography.

Due to the intimate nature of the studio space, this workshop is limited to five participants.
